Libraries are magical places in and of themselves, but right now magic is a highlight in a big way at The New York Public Library for the Perfoming Arts, which is located at Lincoln Center. The library's Billy Rose Theatre Division has a remarkable depth of historic magic materials in its collections and they have drawn on these for an extensive exhibition, Mystery and Wonder: A Legacy of Golden Age Magicians in New York City. There is material on Houdini, Thurston, Blackstone, Alexander Herrmann and Adelaide Herrmann, and much, much more. One showstopping feature of the exhibit is a floor to ceiling wall of vivid magic posters, most of which are from the 1900s and 1910s. I highly recommend the exhibit if you'd like an interesting perspective on a golden age of magic.
